PGCert in Digital Curation: Curating in Contemporary Contexts

12 August 2020 - 7 September 2020

The University of Salford, School of Arts and Media, is offering a postgraduate credit-bearing course in Digital Curation, designed for online distance learning and the possible inclusion of a professional study placement with Spazju Kreattiv in Malta or similar cultural organisations in Greater Manchester. The course will run for eight-months (part-time) or four-months (full-time) starting at the end of September 2020.

The programme of study will explore the career potential for digital curation in the context of contemporary art. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills, shaping your own methodologies based on advanced knowledge and understanding around best practice in the field while exploring critical thinking and new creative collaborations.

Course tutors will work with you to develop a bespoke project. You will be supported by and have the opportunity to connect with a wide range of cultural organisations in the UK and Malta, and will work with their art collections and the ways these are preserved and presented in contemporary contexts to enhance your future career prospects.

One-to-one or small group professional practice tutorials will also be provided, from understanding legal, ethical and safeguarding frameworks, to developing your professional profile with a live brief on a project designed for potentially public consumption during or soon after the course.

This course is suitable for those with an active background in curation and/or digital archiving. It is ideal for anyone who wishes to develop digital curation skills through practical work with contemporary art collections. Participants should have an interest in digital curation and contemporary art along with a willingness to apply presentation and documentation processes to live projects. This course is also suitable for those who have studied or worked with archives and can demonstrate a strong interest in contemporary art.

Successful applications are subject to an entry interview. Fondazzjoni Kreattività and the M3P Foundation will be offering competitive scholarships for projects within their remit, for prospective students holding a letter of acceptance from the University of Salford.
