A look at Italian contemporary movies: Cinema Italia @ Malta presents five of the most interesting movies of the past two years which have never been screened in the archipelago’s cinemas. A number of protagonists of these films will be present for some of the screenings that will take place from 21 to 26 May at SpazjuKreattiv | St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity in Valletta.

CINEMA ITALIA @ MALTA is organized by Istituto Italiano di Cultura | La Valletta and Spazju Kreattiv in collaboration with M.A. in Film Studies, Faculty of Arts, University of Malta. Under the auspices of the Embassy of Italy in Malta.

CINEMA ITALIA @ MALTA is in the frame of FARE CINEMA – The Italian Movie Industry. An initiative of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

Ciro is a feared killer. Along with Rosario, he is one of the two “tigers” at the service of Don Vincenzo, “’o re d’o pesce” [the king of fish], and his astute wife, Donna Maria. Fatima is a dreamer, a young nurse. Two worlds that are apparently distant but fated to collide.
One night Fatima finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Ciro is given the job of getting rid of the girl who has seen too much. But things don’t go as planned. The two end up face to face, recognize each other and rediscover, one in the other, the never forgotten love of their adolescence.

A dramatic event will force them to live together in Rome for a few months, bringing up the opportunity to face their differences with sympathy and tenderness, in a climax of fear and euphoria.

Adriano wakes up in a hotel room next to the dead body of his lover, Laura. The door is locked from the inside and there is no evidence of anybody else in the room.
Despite he claims his innocence, the man is charged with murder and chooses Virginia Ferrara, a veteran criminal attorney who has never lost a trial, to decide the defensive strategy. The two only have three hours to prepare the case, discredit a key witness who’s accusing Adriano, and find the key evidence confirming his innocence. Back to the wall, Adriano is forced to tell the full truth to the lawyer…

Kept isolated from the rest of the world by their own father who just exploits them in order to make money, their life turns upside-down when one of them falls in love for the first time and they discover that they can be separated.
