Young Audience Awards
May 6 @ 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
Date: Sunday 6 May 2018
Time: 9:00AM – 9:00PM
Malta will be participating in the Young Audience Film Day and Awards for the sixth year running. The three shortlisted films this year are: Wallay, Girl in Flight, and Hobbyhorse Revolution. The Creative Europe Desk Malta hosted by the Culture Directorate will be organising this event, as part of the legacy of the European Film Awards held in Malta in 2012, and also because of a strong commitment towards film literacy, increased audience development, as well as better promotion of European films.
Participating audiences (between the ages of 12 and 14) from some 38 European cities will watch the three nominated films inside cinemas across Europe. Between each of the screenings, participants will have the opportunity to discuss the films with filmmakers and members of the national film industry.
The Young Audience Film Day is aimed at shared experiences: it is a fun-packed day in which participants will watch and discuss films in the company of others and will also act as a film jury.
At the end of the day, young audience members from each participating city get to vote for their favourite film. Two young jury speakers will finally announce the national results via a recorded video conference during the awards ceremony in the evening; the ceremony is shown as a live broadcast on the EFA’s website.
Teachers, educators, parents and guardians are hereby invited to identify students and young teens who would like to participate in this full-day event, watch the three nominated films and vote for their favourite of the three films! Interested applicants (between the ages of 12 and 14) can apply through an online application form found on the Creative Europe link HERE and send it to email@example.com by not later than the 28th April 2018.
Ady, a 13-year-old boy, no longer listens to his father who raises him alone. The latter, running out of resources, decides to entrust Ady to his uncle Amadou for the summer. Uncle Amadou and his family live on the other side of the Mediterranean Sea… in Burkina Faso! There, at 13 years old, one must become a man but Ady, persuaded to go on holiday, understands things differently…
Girl in Flight
Girl in Flight is the story of an 11 year old Tuscan girl, Silvia, whose home life is dominated by her mother’s depression. Hoping for a break, Silvia pleads for a family trip to Rome. But when her father backs down yet again, she takes off on her own from their home outside Florence to fulfill her dream. Fearless and open to everything, Silvia meets up with a 13 year old gypsy girl, Emina, who takes her to her gypsy camp. Thus is born a complicated but sincere friendship. Shot in a real Roma camp with resident non-actors, Girl in Flight is a tender, frightening and exciting emotional journey based on events of first-time director Sandra Vannucchi’s real life.
Never stop doing what you love: a funny and moving film about teenagers with growing pains, who discover their own voice and talent through riding and making hobbyhorses.
