Wiki Loves Monuments, the largest international photo contest, and which is coming to Malta for the second time this September. Wiki Loves Monuments is organised by Wikimedia chapters and groups and aims to promote and share knowledge about heritage sites across the world through Wikimedia projects.
Throughout the month of September the public is encouraged to take photos of their local monuments and heritage sites and upload them to Wikimedia Commons using a free licence, in order for them to be shared and used across Wiki platforms and within the public domain. Participation is open to all, regardless of photographic ability. At the end of the month, the contest jury will begin evaluating the photographs and will choose the best pictures of the monuments in Malta, and ultimately in the world.
The selection will then be displayed within the walls of St James Cavalier from Wednesday 13 September until Sunday 8 October. This installation will present the local and international winning photos from the 2016 edition of Wiki Loves Monuments, together with photos that are being received throughout this year’s edition, which is currently taking place.
This contest is a collaboration between Spazju Kreattiv and Wikimedia Community Malta.
