This is the story of Eric, a 10-year-old boy whose coming-of-age unfolds against hard times in Colombia. When Eric moves in with his estranged father, Gabriel – a handyman who’s down on his luck and about to face eviction – it appears as though a sudden kindly gesture is about to turn the tides. Moved by the family’s plight, Gabriel’s top client offers the pair a place to stay over the Christmas season, but socioeconomic differences soon begin to bubble to the surface at the luxurious country villa. Against this backdrop, the young Eric begins to discover what makes the world turn. Gente de Bien is Franco Lolli’s directorial debut – a neo-realist drama about social and economic injustice in modern Latin America.
