Launch of exhibtion: Friday 9 June, 8pm
The students of the MFA in Digital Arts, who have followed a two-year practice-led programme will be exhibiting their final thesis projects at Spazju Kreattiv, St. James Cavalier Valletta, between the 10th June and the 20th August 2017. The projects are the fruit of 18 months of research and exploration into diverse issues, while seeking to reconcile the theoretical and conceptual questions with the possibilities inherent in the digital medium. The concepts which each student chose to investigate are diverse, yet the concern with the digital is the common thread which runs through all the projects. Within the exhibition this diversity in approach and outcome is evident, as the work being exhibited ranges from hybridized installation to photography and sculpture.
“extant” is an adjective which describes that, which is currently existing, surviving, enduring and present. It encapsulates the juxtaposition between the virtual and the real in a digital world. Our research has culminated into one “final project”, however, the themes and issues that we have delved into have widened our horizons and new questions and concerns have been generated and forged. Our work questions, challenges and provokes while simultaneously being shaped and influenced through its existence.
